Daybed Facts
Daybeds (also called " trundle beds") provide for some unique challenges in bedding manufacture, and it is vital that anyone who orders bedding for a daybed be well-informed.  There are few universal standards in the bedding industry, and none at all when it comes to daybeds.

More often than not, daybed bedspreads and bed skirts will have to be split at the corners, and the drop of the bed skirt and bedspread will have to be carefully measured.

Some daybeds are 75" long, and 38" wide, just like a twin bed.  Most are not.  Customers who order twin sized bedding, expecting it to fit their daybed, are often disappointed.

In any case, never assume that any measurement on a daybed is "standard."  While daybeds can be an elegant addition to any room, they demand extra care in dressing them up right.

Things to know before placing an order for a daybed ensemble include:

bulletThe total drop of the bed, from the top of the mattress to the floor.
bulletThe level of the foundation, which is the platform (usually with spring coils) on which the mattress sits.
bulletHow the daybed will be displayed.  Most daybeds are placed with a long side against a wall (as opposed to normal beds, which are usually placed with a short side against a wall).  Some daybeds are designed just the opposite, and still others aren't placed against any wall at all, meaning that all four sides are displayed and in full view.
bullet
The level at which the corners will need to be split, if necessary.

Some daybed configurations can be made without splitting the corners at all, and others cannot.

The illustration to the right shows a split corner on a tailored skirt to get around the typical daybed foundation.

bulletThe trim on any accessories, such as shams or bed skirts.
